Joseph Stalin ruled the Soviet Union from 1929 to 1953. Joseph turned his weak society to a superpower. He used collective farming as a part of making his society a superpower. He ruled by terror. He enforced secret police and made people spy on one another. His reign of terror caused millions of people in his society to die. If and when people didn't participate in the collective farming they were shot or exiled as punishment. In the 1930s, Stalin made a purge to get rid of communist parties because in his eyes they were seen as a threat.

Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvil (Joseph Stalin) was born on December 18, 1878, Gori, Georgia. Since Stalin was ruler he industrialized and militarized the Soviet Union. He ruled the people in terror. As Stalin was young he did a lot of crimes. Stalin was born in poverty. After Vladimir Lenin died Stalin got in control of the party.
Early years- Stalin was the only child. Stalin was beat by his father who was an alcoholic.
