What was the Vietnam War?
The Vietnam War was a long, pricey battle between communist North Vietnam and its allies and South Vietnam and its principle ally, the United States. The war ended with the U.S withdrawing its forces in 1973 and with the unification of Vietnam under communist control. The Vietnam War is significant because it was the longest war in American history and resulted in defeat for American arms. The war resulted in nearly 60,000 American deaths, and an estimated 2 million Vietnamese deaths. The war caused chaos on the American home-front and anti-war protestants became a component to American life.
